Demokratie-X is a research project aimed at developing a privacy-respecting, fair, and public welfare-oriented platform for news. The project is a response to the current digital news market domination by a few large platforms owned by global technology corporations, which raises concerns about media power concentration and its potential impact on democratic opinion-forming processes. By leveraging decentralized technologies, Demokratie-X seeks to create a more balanced and transparent news ecosystem that prioritizes user privacy and public interest over profit maximization.
The primary goal of Demokratie-X is to create a new decentralized and independent non-profit news platform. This platform aims to secure European values, privacy, and self-determination while providing an alternative to dominant news platforms. By developing a sustainable, non-profit business model and implementing privacy-by-design principles, the project seeks to demonstrate that it's possible to build a news platform that serves the public interest while fostering a healthy democratic discourse.
