Abstract
For global competitiveness, competitive analysis is an important component in the automotive development. Apart from the physical analysis of competitive cars it is important to find, select and process publicly available, industry information relevant for the automotive industry.
The high mass of information spread through newsfeeds and the increasingly high number of social media platforms, the task to select relevant data in the least possible time is increasingly difficult.
To improve efficiency in the competitor information analysis of the BMW Group a system must be developed for processing public available data.
Relevant data is supposed to be stored in a database as a knowledge base. With additional factual knowledge a server application should find, process and convey relevant data on request to the employees.
Research question
What is the process of competitor information analysis?
How can public available data from different sources be put together in one database and tagged to categories?
Approach
- Research and comparison of available competitive analysis tools
- User analysis of the department of competitor analysis
- Development of a software architecture for collection, processing and provision of information
- Selection and development of an appropriate database
- Java-based server application for interpreting the collected data
- Development of a browser application to interact with server
