Sebis Research Profile

Our current research agenda addresses three resarch areas as depicted by the layers in the diagram:

  • Software and System Cartography (EAM)
  • Social Software and Web Collaboration (SoSo)
  • Software Architectures and Software Engineering (SW)

Contact Florian Matthes if you are interested in cooperations with us in these areas.

Mergers and Acquistions

For almost 100 years mergers and acquisitions (M&A) have been used as a management instrument for enterprises. Despite their long history, a significant number of merger projects do not reach their expected goals or fail completely. This research project attempts to apply the relatively new discipline of enterprise architecture management (EAM) in the context of M&A by combining EAM methods and knowledge from academia with market standards and practical experience.

Enterprise 2.0 Survey

This survey provides a detailed analysis of enterprise 2.0 tools' concepts and functionality.  This work contributes to a better understanding of this emerging family of enterprise applications, highlights strenghts and weaknesses of existing tools and identifies areas for further research and development.

SyCa - System Cartography

Enterprise application landscapes are complex intangible structures created, utilized, financed and managed by people with vastly different backgrounds and objectives. Software cartography supports the communication between these stakeholders by intuitive and precise visual maps and thus contributes to an improved understanding and management of enterprise architectures.

SimEA - Simulating Enterprise Architectures

This project identifies possible techniques for enterprise architecture (EA) simulations and establishes methods for applying these techniques in practical examples. A key observation underlying the approach is the fact that EAs are, although highly complex, largely stable systems.

EAM Pattern Catalog - Enterprise Architecture Management Patterns

The objective of the EAM Pattern Catalog is to complement existing Enterprise Architecture (EA) management frameworks, which provide a holistic and generic view on the problem of EA management, and to provide additional detail and guidance needed to systematically establish EA management in a step-wise fashion within an enterprise.

Hybrid Wiki

The hybridWiki provides a lightweight semantic extension usable in a traditional wiki environment. In contrast to more heavyweight approaches as semantic wikis, the hybridWiki does not focus on annotating wiki content with semantic information corresponding to a fixed ontology, which could be regarded as a top-down (i.e. ontology first) approach

Tricia - Open Source Web Collaboration and Knowledge Management Software

Tricia is an easy-to use open-source software that provides integrated web collaboration services to all members of the extended enterprise including wiki collaboration, personal & team blogging, file & directory sharing, social networking, content publishing & site navigation.

SyCaTool - Software and System Cartography Tool

The System Cartography Tool SyCaTool (formerly known as SoCaTool) provides functionalities to automatically generate semantically consistent visualizations of data modeled according to an arbitrary object-oriented information model. The tool has initially been developed in the project Software Cartography to support the generation of software maps. With the extension of the focus of  our research concerning maps as means for describing complex systems, the tool has migrated to the System Cartography project.
